Last year, Saskatchewan paper printed more pro-cannabis letters to the editor than ever before. Most of these letters were printed in the Star Phoenix, though several were printed in other papers throughout Saskatchewan.

This year, it would be nice to see many more letters printed in many different papers. By way of encouragement, the Leaf News will be offering the following incentives.

First Prize - A Volcano Vaporizer
Second Prize - 1 oz of organic Saskatchewan grown cannabis

All letter writer submitting a published letter will also recieve good karma and a free Leaf Tshirt.

Rules:

All letters, editorials, and articles must be authored by a Saskatchewan resident and published in a Saskatchewan newspaper or magazine (Articles, editorials and letters printed in the Leaf are excluded).

All letters and articles should exemplify an anti-prohibitionist or pro-cannabis point of view.

Articles will receive 5 points
OPEDs will receive 3 point
LTEs will be awarded 1 point.
LTEs published in any publication other than the Star Phoenix will recieve an additional point.

Points will be calculated based on all articles, leters, etc published on or before Dec 31, 2007.

Please note that many publications are not available electronically. If you have a letter published, it is the authors responsibility to submit it to theleafnews@gmail.com. Only confirmed publications will be counted.

Good luck.

As long as the 'big stink' is in the form of a pro-cannabis or anti-prohibition letter to an editor, it is worth one point.

Yeah Tanya! Looks like you, me and a bag of weed for New Years Eve. Nobody else seems to have any game.

Cheers

Just got a call from Kevin Ens in Nipawin.  He was thrilled with your letter on DARE.  Hat's off, gentle people.  Medals and promotions all around.

Cool! I liked Barth's letter better. I have to start getting more facts in with the hysterical ramblings.

These are the 'unofficial' results from Jan 1,2021 until Feb 28, 2007:

Tanya D - 1 Point - Jan 26
CN SN: LTE: War on drugs gave Walker justification for taking life

Moe B - 2 Points - Jan 25
CN SN: LTE: Sugar kills, marijuana doesn't

Moe B - 2 Points - Feb 8 - Yorkton News Review
CN SN: PUB LTE: Discussion needed on drugs

Ethan E - 2 Points - Feb 10 - Prince Albert Herald
CN SN: PUB LTE: Wrong Headline Used

Moe B - 1 Point - Feb 14 - Star Phoenix
CN SN: Frank discussion on drug use needed to prevent real harm

Moe B - 2 Points - Feb 14 - Nipawin Journal
CN SN: Good riddance to DARE

Moe B - 2 points - Feb 23 - Leader Post
CN SN: PUB LTE: 'Non-punitive approach'

Tanya D - 2 points - Feb 23 - Nipawin Journal
CN SN: PUB LTE: Better programs out there

Moe B - 2 points - Feb 28 - Nipawin Journal
CN SN: PUB LTE: Intimidation Tactics

...

There is still a tremendous amount of time left to win this for anyone. I would encourage everyone to participate and try to publish at least 1 letter this year.

We can hold rallies of 5000 people and we still would not reach as many people as one letter does in the weyburn paper. A letter in the SP or LP can reach 10s of thousand of people at a cost as low as several minutes of your time.

Nobody should need incentive to do this ... it is one of our primary weapons in the war against drug propaganda.
